2026 EE holiday List

Public holidays highlighted yellow and crossed out indicate that classes proceed as usual; the holiday class is to replace Sheena's leave, taken in April. Thanks.

The right fit

Assessments? What for?

An assessment allows a glimpse into the student's language learning realm, covering:

▪ fluency when speaking ▪  accurate reading ▪ writing capabilities ▪ vocabulary bank ▪  listening powers ▪  critical thinking

Based on the assessment, a suitable class is identifies and advised.

The right fit

Students are placed in groups according to their learning capabilities, not just based on their age but still taking into account their maturity.

Learning at the right level:

▪ provides challenge ▪  broadens the outlook ▪  builds on self-confidence ▪  prompts critical thinking  ▪  prevents boredom

Changing levels

Language progression is different for every child. Once a student outgrows a level, changing classes to upgrade may become a possibility if the teacher thinks so. Plus, at EE, it can be done at any of the year ie. mid-year, schedule-permitting, of course.

What EE Covers?

Critical Thinking

Some kids shrug and claim ignorance. They are not sure:

  • what to say
  • when to say something
  • why they should speak out
  • how to express themselves
  • which viewpoint to take
  • where to target their ideas

Crtitican thinking training addresses this.

Reading

Benefits of reading are endless, taking us beyond language learning and English. Read for life, why not? But do we jusr read or can we read accurately?

  • Please look at our blog series for more on the reading habit.

Speaking

It can be said that speaking is the integral part of human communication.

  • Speak to communicate
  • Speak up
  • Speak the truth

Can our kids speak to be heard?

Listening

  • Did you hear what I said?
  • What did they say?
  • Was it clear?
  • Be a good listener!

Can this be taught? Yes, indeed.

Writing

Writing can range from a simple short post-it note to a dissertation for university.

The questions to ask are:

  • Does the brief note covers all needed instructions concisely?
  • Can the lengthy project convey the contents effectively?

Studying creative writing is the stepping stone towards this.
